Webinars & FAQ
We believe that every student is capable of succeeding in school. We have found that many student academic problems are simply a lack of skills or techniques to use when approaching schoolwork. Once a student is equipped with effective organization and study strategies, classes and assignments that were overwhelming become manageable. Students become more motivated, relaxed and self-confident and can enjoy the rewards of academic success.
Our mission is to empower students to become successful and self-directed lifelong learners.
Working 1-on-1 with a Study Coach helps students identify and utilize new learning tools and strategies to help meet their academic and personal goals. Coaches help students create their own action plan by identifying priorities and deadlines.
In our Coaching Program, students and coaches develop working relationships through scheduled meetings and followup email communications. In the meetings, coaches use a variety of tools to help students improve their time management, study strategies, issues related to attention, focus, and motivation.
Study Coaches can assist students in the following areas:
Help students establish priorities and set goals
Teach strategies for organizational management
Encourage use of daily schedules and routines
Support students through various decision-making processes
Increase awareness of procrastination and identify ways to get back on track
Identify strategies for breaking down projects into manageable and achievable tasks
Assist with exam preparation and test-taking strategies
Study Coaching sessions are not:
Subject tutoring
Paper-editing workshops
Homework assistance
Quick fixes/instant improvements for academic struggles
To fully benefit from the coaching experience, students must commit to attending appointments on time and consistently. They must also follow through by implementing strategies that have been discussed in the session.
While long-term goals are kept in mind, each coaching session is driven by the immediate needs of the student – what will make the most impact today? Perhaps it will be attacking a large history project, sorting through a disheveled backpack, or preparing for a biology test. Typically, the coach will ask questions to determine where the student is having difficulty and lead him or her to solutions.
Does the student know exactly what is to be done and when?
Does the student know how to do it?
What strategies have been used in the past?
Would a different approach work more successfully?
Are there other obstacles beyond the student's control?
Through this approach, the student, in partnership with the coach, begins making choices for his or her own success. Study strategies that are introduced in the context of real and immediate problems help build skills that the student can apply in context. Reviewing, practicing and developing these skills over time is the best way to reinforce positive habits, create long-term mastery and instill confidence.
We believe that most students are capable of understanding the content of the courses they are taught at school. The difference between success and underachievement, motivation and apathy, can be attributed not to a failure of the intellect, but to a weakness in, or the complete absence of strategies.
Some students seem to aquire 'tackling their work' strategies on their own. Study strategies such as organization, time management, note taking, expository writing and test preparation are rarely taught by teachers, especially at the middle school and high school level. Such teachers are content driven and normally expect students to devise their own approaches to tackling the workload. Coaches build confidence, motivation and self-reliance through individualizing the teaching and implementation of study strategies to each client's needs and style. Students then learn to work smarter, not harder.
Academic Coaches provide you a "personal support system” who can observe your strategies and techniques, suggest changes to your approach, and provide encouragement as you implement new ways of learning.
This will give students an edge over others in their progress towards their goals.
Program is for school and college students from ages 10 and up.
Coach can help you go from good to great with customised support around your needs.
Many students often fail to turn in work on time or don't know what is due or when. Planning, prioritizing, goal setting and follow through, organizing and test preparation are just some of the areas in which students can find the support they need in coaching.
Others manage to maintain better-than-average grades but spend lengthy, inefficient hours at home slogging through assignments with great frustration.
Some wrestle with excessive use of the internet and social media, full after school schedules (including sports) and demanding course loads.
We teach students how to get on top of work before it gets on top of them.
The program's coaches have been trained under guidance from our Canadian partner StudySpot (studyspot.ca). We also have top international coach advisors on our advisory panel to keep up with the latest in the field.
They have practical experience and passion of working with kids and hold advanced degrees. They also bring a diversity of academic, professional and personal experience to their roles.
This is done in three ways;
Goal Setting(where students decide on how many marks do they plan to achieve in the school year) and track it at the end of the year.
Weekly planner : every week short term goals are tracked and evaluated on a scale of 1-5 in terms of adherence to the decided plan.
Executive & Academic skills competence: In first and last coaching call, students evaluate themselves on these skills and see the progress.
There is no quick road to success. Long ingrained habits in particular can take some time to overturn. Goals are set at the beginning of the work and progress is determined by the realization of those goals.
